Sewing catch up

I know I haven't said much about sewing lately,
but that doesn't mean I have been exiled from my sewing room.
Its the end of the school year and its been a busy one.
But not so busy I wasn't able to throw together a few fun projects.
Remember that delicious hedgehog fabric?

I needed a quick little pouch for business cards so I found this great little tutorial
and whipped it up in less that 12 minutes!
I wish I could remember the blog that had this great tutorial, but I am drawing a blank.
So thanks random blogger, if I can remember who you are I will come back here and definitely give you credit.

I do remember where this one came from: I Like Orange Too
The practice piece. Some Westminster fabrics and some of that incredible Essex Linen.

I added pocket, easy peasy.

Here it is with pleats! The fabrics are Essex Linen and Westminster or Timeless Treasures (I honestly don't remember and the selvage is not handy)
and some fun, ahem, Walmart fabric on the inside.
It truly was the best yellow to go with the feature fabric on the outside.
So the pleats, lets focus on the pleats! They are divine! And not nearly so hard as they look.
This pattern is easy to follow and I know several people who have bought the pdf pattern and made their own bags. Its been great for me as my usual school bag was soaked in the
flood, I mean pool installation a few weeks back at work.
Happy sewing, lets hope you don't have torrential rains that force you to sew.

Thrown pots

Finally my last round of pots are DONE!!
And, not to be modest (why bother!!)
They are awesome!
First a moment of true confession....
While the mug and small bowl were thrown on a wheel,
I did not do the throwing. I think they would have turned out a bit less awesome
as I have never thrown clay before.
So without futher ado, here they are:
Just a little finger bowl, cuz I don't have enough of THEM.
Love the blue! The rim was actually a black glaze that became greenish in the kiln.

My monster sized bowl. Really, its HUGE!
A nice coil pot that I absolutely LOVE because of the birds.
(The answer is NO, Mom, you can't have or borrow it. You still have quilts you "borrowed" two years ago)
There are sweet little birds I molded on each side of the pot sitting on a branch I made.
It looks really French Country with the pale green glaze.

And finally my favorite piece

This is a really aweful picture of my leg mug. Yup,  I said LEG mug.
Thats cuz the handle is a LEG!!
Isn't it outrageously awesome and just a bit creepy??
The kids at school think we are a bit touched in the head
(another in the class put two arms reaching out on her mug, way to go Jen!)

I still have one more piece at work, an elephant bowl.
You will have to wait until we grind the bottom a bit, some glaze pooled funky.
Do you do pottery or some other craft besides sewing?
Drop in and leave me a comment!

Zakka Mug Rugs

Down to the wire, but in style!
Here are my Zakka mug rugs......
I decided that the cloudy day needed some company.

Come on back tomorrow, I'll have a post about the Sew Mama Sew giveaway week...
Got my prize all ready for you!

Modern Meet up Wrap up

Headed to Kansas City yesterday for the MQS show and the Modern Quilt Guild meet up.
Not going to say much about the quilt show because, well...
there wasn't much to it.
Have to say, I'm not disappointed its moving to Wichita next year, I don't think many will miss it.
HOWEVER, the Modern Quit Guild Meet Up was a lot of fun.
Didn't snap a lot of photos, but I will tell you that the room was CRAWLING with celebrities.
Quilty celebrities.
Go ahead and say it...
DORK!
I only knew of a few, but there were big names rubbing elbows with little folk like me..
Amy Butler, Tula Pink, Lotta Jorgenson and lots more.
Ok.
Full disclosure.
I couldn't pick any of these fabric and pattern designers out of a line up of three.
But the great gals I was with knew them all and were so much fun to watch get all starry eyed.

And there were door prizes!

The first almost 100 got great swag bags with all of these goodies...
a Bernina bag, a charm pack of Cotton Couture by michael miller, a matchbook sewing kit from Denise Schmidt Quilts, a Generation Q magazine, and a Modern Quilts Illustrated.
Then that same group (I was 7th in the door, btw) got to draw numbers for more door prizes.
I drew lucky # 88 and here's what I won:

A bundle of 6 half yard cuts of the brand spanking new Kona Modern Quilts fabric!
Yep, thats 3 whole yards!
Let me tell you, there were some serious requests to swap with others who only won thread for their prizes.
But wait, there's more!

Shannon and Miriam from Fabric Nosherie  were there and Shannon was one of the thread winners.
She has a fabulous store and no need for more thread (she said she only pieces in white)
So she gave me her Aurifil Thread door prize!

Isn't she the best!?! You HAVE to check out her shop if you haven't sone so already.

So we're relaxing and visiting at a table and suddenly a cute couple come bopping up to the table
asking if any of us are bloggers.
Well, of course there are about 5 of us at the table!
And they pull out this:

All of us bloggers got one (until they ran out) with instructions to make something with it,
post it on our blog, and email Windham Fabrics with the juicy results.
I can't wait to play with this new line and show you what I come up with!

Didn't win any of the grand prizes, but congrats to those that did!
Definitely a fun evening, and I'll be sure to go to future Modern Meet Ups.

Hedgehogs and Bicycles

Today I fell off the wagon.
I was doing so good, only buying fabric for specific projects
because my stash is overwhelming
and falling out of its bins and closets
(yep, CLOSETS, plural).
But I just couldn't resist.
I stopped into my favorite local fabric purveyor,
The Fabric Nosherie in Webster Groves, and I was smitten.
They are SOOOO cute!

Hedgehogs! Cute little purple hedgehogs!

Everyone needs to ride a bicycle sometime!

I have no idea what I am going to do with these lovelies.
I might just have to pet them for a while.

Zakka Itty Bitty Magnets

So here they are,
my itty bitty magnets

A really fuzzy photo, but apparently my Fridge is not photogenic.

I know this is short, but I'm heading out the door.
For some reason my friends think I should be partying it up
now that I have a "4" as a staple in my bithdays.
Rock on, and have a great week!

Tuesday's Truth

You are only as old as you feel.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Zipperlicious!

Wahoo!
I won the drawing for last week's Zakka Style project
(it was that cute little sewing case)
My prize was an amazing $30 gift certificate from the Etsy shop
Zipit !
I had so much fun picking out my zippers, and boy oh boy is there a lot to choose from.
In the end I picked a nice assortment of colors and sizes
so I'm ready for almost any project that involves zippers.
To think, I've only known how to sew in zippers for about a year and a half,
and now I have enough zippers to last me a LONG time!

Oh, and Jenny at Zipit included the cutest little zipper pull! See it in the picture on the left?
So fun!!
